Governor Ron DeSantis announced today that the Town of Callahan has been awarded $4 million from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to build a clean water supply plant at Crawford Diamond Industrial Park, a 1,800-acre industrial megasite.

Two main rail lines serve the site, which is also close to several interstate roads and shipping ports.

This infrastructure project will allow this location to support roughly 500 direct jobs and 2,158 total jobs in high-wage, sustainable businesses, including manufacturing, resulting in significant economic repercussions and long-term growth of the local economy.

Governor Ron DeSantis said, “I am glad to support a project that will promote economic growth and provide long-term value.”

“This investment will help Nassau County citizens improve their quality of life by facilitating substantial infrastructure improvements and creating jobs.”

DEO Secretary Dane Eagle remarked, “DEO is happy to support Governor DeSantis’ mission to prioritize Floridians’ livelihoods and expand business development possibilities.”

“This money will give the Town of Callahan with the resources it needs to develop infrastructure, generate jobs, and serve as an excellent example of the kinds of synergies that smart investments can foster between shipping, transportation, and industrial infrastructure.”

“Governor DeSantis’ business-friendly policies have been a reason for recruiting business and talent to Florida,” said Aundra Wallace, President, JAXUSA Partnership.

“Doing business in Florida has become increasingly appealing in recent years, as corporations seek cheaper costs of doing business, acceptable infrastructure, and a ready and skilled workforce.”

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund is a state-funded economic development initiative that promotes public infrastructure and workforce training. DEO and Enterprise Florida, Inc. analyze proposals before Governor DeSantis chooses one to address the demand for workforce training or infrastructure needs in communities around the state.

DEO and EFI are now accepting ideas until all funds is allocated. Visit www.FloridaJobs.org/JobGrowth for additional information.
