After a cable car became stuck high in the air over a mountain range in India, terrified visitors were forced to climb out using a rope.

The tourists were stunned when their cable car abruptly halted while appreciating the stunning vistas of the northern Shivalik mountains.

On Monday, they were on the Parwanoo Timber Trail when they became stranded in mid-air.

The tourists were stuck for at least 1.5 hours, local media reported

One of the 11 trapped visitors may be seen on video using a rope to lower himself down from the cable car.
However, many tourists, especially youngsters and the elderly, were unable to utilize the rope to descend.

The group was stranded for over an hour before police and fire crews came to assist with the cable car evacuation.

The rest of the group was rescued using a second cable car, according to the Times of India, and the full car was safely evacuated.

On October 13, 1992, a similar incident occurred when the haulage cable near the docking station snapped and the cable car carrying 11 passengers tumbled backwards.

The operator, in a panic, leaped off the car just as it began to slip, and he killed as a result of the fall.

‘In India, safety is never proactive; it is only considered when lives are at risk,’ wrote one user in response to the Times of India’s report.

Another advocated for the suspension of the cable cars until the operators can demonstrate that they comply with the international safety standard authorized by the Ministry of Tourism.
