In a dramatic turn of events, a five-year-old autistic boy who went missing and almost drowned in a Florida pond was safely rescued thanks to the quick actions of a dedicated deputy.

On Tuesday night at around 7:30 p.m., the child vanished from his home in Deltona. An alarm alerted his parents to his absence, prompting an immediate search.

As neighbors called 911, deputies from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office quickly responded, focusing their efforts on nearby water sources, knowing the child was drawn to water.

After nearly 20 minutes of searching, Deputy Wes Brough found the boy in a pond just a few blocks from his home. Deputy Brough heard a faint voice and spotted the child clinging to a log.

Without hesitation, Brough jumped into the water and retrieved the boy. Video footage captured the moment the deputy held the child safely. Authorities confirmed the boy was medically cleared and joyfully reunited with his family.

Family and Training

The boy’s family explained that they had several safety measures in place, including a door alarm, to prevent such incidents. Deputy Brough, who has received Autism Awareness Training, was well-prepared to handle this emergency.

Officials praised the team’s efforts, acknowledging the successful resolution of the call.
