Charley Hull is setting her sights on surpassing her previous Olympic performance. After finishing seventh at the Rio Games, the 28-year-old golfer is determined to improve her standing at the Paris Olympics. However, she’s facing a unique challenge that could impact her game.

Charley Hull, known for her smoking habit on the golf course, has recently gained attention for this unusual practice. She has stated that smoking helps her manage her nerves, especially after being diagnosed with ADHD last year.

But at the Paris Games, where smoking is not allowed on the course, Hull has expressed concerns that this restriction might affect her performance.

“I do smoke on the course; it’s just something I do,” Hull admitted after her practice round. “It’s a habit, but I won’t be doing it this week. I think it will affect my chances because it helps me relax a bit. But it is what it is.”

The Competition and Team GB’s Hope

Despite these challenges, Hull remains focused on her goal.

The current favorite for the gold medal is Nelly Korda from the United States, who also started slowly, matching Hull’s two-over-par score after the first four holes. Team GB is hoping for a strong showing, buoyed by Tommy Fleetwood’s recent silver medal in the men’s individual event.

Hull, who missed the Tokyo Olympics due to pandemic restrictions, is excited about the opportunity in Paris. “It was the right decision at the time, but it makes me even more excited for Paris,” she shared with Mail Sport. “Rio was such a long time ago.”

Competing with a Friend

In Paris, Hull will be joined by her close friend and fellow British golfer, Georgia Hall, who is making her Olympic debut. “We’ve known each other since we were 11 and grew up practicing together.

It’s perfect to play with my best mate,” Hull said. The two have a history of success together, including standout performances at the Solheim Cups and the Dow Championship.

As Hull and Hall prepare to compete at the prestigious Le Golf National from August 7 to 10, Hull’s previous experience and camaraderie with Hall may provide the boost they need to make a significant impact.
