Joseph Favrin, the principal of a co-educational Catholic school was removed from his position after being sex crimes

After being charged with sexual crimes, the principal of a co-educational Catholic school was removed from his position.

According to records from the Victoria Institute of Teaching, Joseph Favrin, the principal of Loyola College in Melbourne’s north-east since 2008, was suspended on an interim basis on Friday.

He had taken a week off from school, with the acting principal informing the school community that he was ‘attending to a personal matter.’

Many staff, parents, and students were unaware of the situation and were’stunned’ when the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools informed them via email on Friday afternoon.

According to the Herald Sun, the letter stated that Mr Favrin had been suspended by the teaching regulator but did not mention any charges.

A 67-year-old Mill Park man has been charged, according to Victoria Police.
‘Mernda sexual offences and child abuse team detectives have charged the man with two counts of sexual activity directed at a person and one count of sexual exposure,’ according to police.

The alleged crimes, which occurred in April, are not believed to be linked to the school, which is located in the Watsonia suburb.

On September 13, Mr. Favrin will appear in Heidelberg Magistrates Court.
