Dan Malesela Returns to Marumo Gallants as Head Coach, Promises Fresh Approach for Upcoming Season in South Africa

Dan Malesela has returned to Marumo Gallants for what he believes is a unique opportunity compared to his previous two stints with the club.

This week, Malesela was reappointed to take over from Dylan Kerr, who made a surprising exit just three weeks after his third term began.

Malesela, fresh off his stint with Baroka FC where he led them to the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs, admits he was taken aback by the call from Marumo Gallants.

Despite the surprise, he had been contemplating a return to the club. “I didn’t expect the call, but deep down, I was already thinking about it,” Malesela shared with FARPost.

He recalled his thoughts when Gallants first announced they were acquiring the club’s status, which had him pondering the possibility.

What Sets This Return Apart

At 59, Malesela is stepping into a slightly different role this time around. Previously, he led the team to a Nedbank Cup final in 2022, where they fell to Mamelodi Sundowns, and helped them qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

However, his tenure was cut short due to disagreements with management.

“This time, starting with the season, even if it’s not the full pre-season, is a significant difference,” Malesela explained.

“The delay in the league’s start gives me a bit of extra time to prepare, choose the right players, and correct previous mistakes.”

Malesela also pointed out that he’s in a better position to address past issues and refine the team’s approach. “It’s a chance to make improvements and ensure we don’t repeat past errors,” he added.
