Hillary Clinton went out for fish and chips at Colmans chippy

Following a lecture, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton surprised diners at a British coastal chippy by dropping in for dinner.

After presenting the annual South Shields Lecture with former local MP David Miliband on Friday, the former first lady stayed for two hours at Colmans restaurant.

The chippy’s owner, Richard Colman Ord, 29, described welcoming the famed politician to his 100-year-old seaside family-run shop as “surreal.”

He admitted that he was aware that she would be dining at the restaurant in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, but that it ‘wasn’t every day that Hillary Clinton swings into your restaurant.’

Mrs Clinton, who was accompanied by several secret service personnel, ate crab salad as an appetizer and then customary £12.95 cod and chips before posing with staff and guests, according to Mr Colman Ord.

‘She had a terrific time,’ he added. She was incredibly friendly to all of the guests and accommodating to the employees.

‘She started with a local crab salad before moving on to our standard fish and chips, which she devoured with seconds of tartar sauce.’

‘We didn’t charge them for the meal since it’s something we do every year with David Miliband,’ he continued, ‘but our crab on toast is £12.95, and our standard cod and chip is also £12.95.’

Mrs Clinton and Mr Miliband both ate the same meal.

At around 8 p.m., Hillary Clinton arrived at Mr. Colman Ord’s fish and chip restaurant, which usually hosts guests from the annual South Shields Lecture.

‘I had a feeling she was coming.’ David Miliband is a former South Shields Member of Parliament. Every year, we collaborate with him on the yearly talk,’ he explained.

‘Hillary Clinton agreed to do it and came to South Shields, which was wonderful because she’s one of the most well-known people we’ve ever had.’
