A further 77 instances of monkeypox have been reported in the United Kingdom, increasing the total number of cases in the country to 302, according to health officials.
287 instances have been confirmed in England, 10 in Scotland, 2 in Northern Ireland, and 3 in Wales, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The virus, which is spread by close contact with an infected individual, can infect anyone. However, the majority of cases have been found in guys who have sex with other men.
The age, area, and gender of people infected with monkeypox have not been revealed by the UKHSA.
Britons with a rash with blisters who have been in close touch with someone who may have monkeypox or who have traveled to west or central Africa, where the virus is endemic, should seek medical help.
It comes as specialists cautioned today that the virus could continue to spread until next year.
They did warn, however, that tracking contacts, isolating affected persons, and vaccination them and their close connections – measures utilized in the UK — could cut the duration of the outbreak in half.
