Drama at the Bomas of Kenya as Wanjigi’s microphone switched off during exchange with Chebukati

The microphone of Safina party presidential candidate Jimmy Wanjigi was turned off during an exchange with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday.

Wanjigi stepped to the microphone to challenge Chebukati over the commission’s decision to disqualify him from the race owing to a lack of a degree certificate.

Wanjigi was left muttering ‘Haloo Haloo’ after the microphone was turned off a few moments later.

“Do not cut me… Do not cut me. You should adhere to the constitution, you will not get away with it,” Wanjigi was heard saying before his mic went off.

Wanjigi produced transcripts instead of a degree, according to IEBC, and stated that he will graduate in December 2022, citing a letter from his Daystar institution.

Wanjigi did not fulfill the signatures required, according to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, who examined Wanjigi’s documents at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Monday.

“Before I clear you, you must provide a physical copy of your degree diploma; we can also allow you to harmonize your signatures and return in the remaining hours,” Chebukati stated.
