Sydney residents express their dissatisfaction with the ‘underwhelming’ Vivid festival.

Visitors have expressed their dissatisfaction with Vivid, blaming the enormous crowds, frigid weather, and disappointing light displays.

Some attendees were irritated by the event, which was held for the first time since the COVID-19 epidemic began in 2020.

One woman claimed in a TikTok video that the highlight of the event was visiting a vendor and purchasing a gaudy headgear that lights up.

‘Vivid was so pointless lmao the only thing I got out of tonight was this sparkly headband and probably covid,’ the caption read.

Another TikToker uploaded a video showing his friends riding the train home, slouched in their seats and visibly displeased.

‘Bro Vivid was so s**t holy waste of time,’ he wrote.

Other social media users took issue with the crowds venting their frustration. They spent most of the night navigating through the large throngs of people.

‘Went on Saturday night, way too many people, couldn’t even walk,’ one person wrote.

Another added: ‘It was so boring me and my boyfriend left earlier than we thought we would.’

On some nights, cold weather caused spectators to bundle up and withstand 10C temperatures and strong gusts.

‘Omg it was too cold’, ‘everything is overrated’ and ‘hang on is that why I’m sick’ were among the comments left on social media.

With tens of thousands of fans visiting the city each night since the event began on May 27, the criticism appears to be coming from a minority.

The light show attracted the highest attendance ever in 2019, with 2.4 million locals and international tourists attending the 23-day spectacular.

Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres recognized that crowds had been an issue in the past and encouraged travelers to plan ahead and attend during the quieter weekdays.

‘The weekends are going to be huge, the long weekend will be massive,’ he said.

‘I think we still see very big numbers, so it’s very important people plan their trip… come in on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday if you want slightly smaller crowds.

‘I’m quietly confident Sydneysiders and people right around the country really want to get out and about and see Vivid.’
