Tresor, a multi-award-winning singer/songwriter, joins Phemelo Motene on Point of View to discuss his start in the music industry at the age of eight, the value of collaborating with his peers, working with Drake, and much more.

Tresor claims that the African continent has had a big influence on his music.

“I’m pretty much influenced by music from all over the continent. I grew up listening to South African artists like Caiphus and Bra Hugh, Merriam Makeba, Brenda Fassieand west African artists. In Congo, the main influence was always Papa Wemba. It’s a mixture of a lot of incredible African artists.”

On meeting popular Hip Hop artist Drake, he says it “was incredible and amazing.”

He continues, “it was a great reaffirmation of the journey I’ve been travelling as an artist, for a lot of people that actually don’t know, I did a collaboration album with Maphorisa and Kabza that we recorded throughout lockdown and they (Drake’s team) heard all the songs and they lost it.

“They got in touch within two weeks and from there. I always tell people that music will always find its own way,” he said.
