Armed with a shotgun he grabbed from his barbershop as he left to hurry to the scene, an off-duty border patrol agent revealed how he evacuated students from Robb Elementary School, including his own eight-year-old daughter.
When Jacob Albarado, a father of three, was in the barbershop, he received a text message from his wife Trisha, a fourth-grade math and science teacher at the school.
‘There’s a gunman on the loose,’ she continued. ‘Help. ‘I really like you.’
Albarado sprang to his feet, snatched a shotgun from the barber, and dashed to the school.
Inside, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, a high school dropout and loner who had bought the rifles he used a week before, was murdering 19 children and their two teachers. He was eventually shot dead by one of Albarado’s border patrol colleagues.
His wife and her class were hiding under tables and behind curtains; his daughter was locked in a bathroom.
