Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has shouldered the blame for the team’s failure to win the CAF Confederation Cup final on Friday.
The Buccaneers suffered a 5-4 penalty shootout loss to Moroccan side RSB Berkane after the game had ended 0-0 in regulation time and 1-1 after extra time.
Speaking to the media, Ncikazi took the blame for the defeat, saying people can point at every direction when the team loses but the buck stops with the coach.
Ncikazi said, as a coach, he’s the one who should help the team win matches, and he feels he hasn’t done that since assuming the role of co-coach at Pirates.
Ncikazi added that that the fact that Pirates aren’t scoring enough goals is still his responsibility as a coach, admitting that they lost a game they should have won in regulation time.

“I take the blame, I am the one who is not helping the team to win matches. Until that changes, then it is our responsibility as a coach. So, there is no other excuse.”
“Currently, the team is not scoring, and it is the coach’s responsibility. We lost the final; a match that we shouldn’t have lost. It’s a match that we should have won in normal time, the story of our season.”
“We create so many chances, dominated the match, but we just don’t do what’s most important, putting the ball in the net,” added Ncikazi.
