The Blitzboks are out of title contention at the Toulouse Sevens after losing their third and final Pool D clash against Samoa on Saturday.

Samoa won 19-7 to eliminate the Springbok Sevens team from the title race.

Samoa raced out to a 19-0 lead at half-time and all the Blitzboks could muster was a late second half consolation try and conversion by Ronald Brown.

Blitzboks suffered historic defeat to Ireland

On Friday the Blitzboks suffered an historic first-ever World Rugby Sevens series defeat to Ireland (21-12), before bouncing back to beat minnows Spain 27-7.

The Springboks Sevens side ended up third in their pool behind winners Samoa and runners-up Ireland.

They will now play the fourth-placed finishers in Pool A – likely to be Japan – at 16:36 (SA time) on Saturday in the battle for ninth-16th places.
