WATCH NOW: Memorial Service for gospel legend Deborah Fraser

Legendary gospel singer Deborah Fraser passed away at 57 years old on Sunday 15 May following a short illness. Before her passing, Fraser was wheelchair-bound and told TshisaLive that she was optimistic that she’d get back on her feet.

Friends and family gathered at the House House of Treasures Ministries in Johannesburg for the singer’s memorial service on Thursday 19 May.

Deborah Fraser will be laid to rest in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday 21 May.

THE SINGER’S MUSIC CAREER

The KwaZulu-Natal-born singer kicked off her music career as a backup singer for the likes of Rebecca Malope, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Hugh Masekela and Jonas Gwangwa.

Fraser rose to fame following the release of her debut gospel album, Abanya Bayombona in 2008. She made history in 2008, as the first recipient of the Best Female Gospel  Artist award at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.

She has become a household name in the music industry and one of the most respected gospel artists in the country.

COLLEAGUES REMEMBER DEBORAH FRASER

Taking to Instagram on 15 May, Rebecca Malope shared a heartwarming video of her and Debora Fraser at a performance.

Remembering the gospel legend she wrote: “What a great loss to us all. Lala ngoxolo sisi Wami. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of our beloved Deborah Fraser.”
