The ongoing Wagatha Christie trial between footballers’ wives Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney has revealed some bombshells about more past leaks to the press.
While Vardy’s 2004 “chipolata” comment about her ex-fling Peter Andre was revisited at the £3 million (R60 million) trial, more bystanders have found their names being dragged into the case. These include Manchester City footballer Riyad Mahrez and former Leicester City player Danny Drinkwater.
The first week saw Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy’s wife take the witness stand as Rooney’s lawyers grilled her during the libel trial.
What has stood out so far is that Vardy and her former agent, Caroline Watt, have had many text conversations where they discussed leaking stories about other personalities’ personal lives to the press.
According to The Guardian, the court heard allegations that Vardy discussed the Leicester City squad’s dislike of “on-strike” player Mahrez with her agent. Mahrez was pursuing a move to Manchester City at the time and was alleged to be missing training frequently.
The WhatsApp message the reality TV star wrote read: “Mahrez not turned up for training again. The lads are fuming,” the SportBible reported.
The publication further reported that the London High Court was told Watt suggested they leak the information to a Sky Sports News who was covering the story of Mahrez’s potential move to Man City.
VARDY ADMITS TO LEAKING DANNY DRINKWATER’S ALCOHOL DRINKING STORY
In addition, the wag had allegedly attempted taking details of former Leicester City footballer Danny Drinkwater’s car crash to a journalist at the Sun.
In 2019 the Premier League footballer was arrested for drink-driving after crashing his Range Rover, and when the story faded from the media, the mom-of-five allegedly tried to revive the story.
“Vardy said she wanted to leak the story because she abhorred drink drivers – but the court heard how Vardy messaged her agent with the information,” the Guardian reports.
