Following Richards Bay FC’s promotion to the DStv Premiership there will be no fewer than FIVE teams from the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa’s top-flight next season.
That’s assuming of course none of the quintet decide to sell their status!
Richards Bay finished top of the GladAfrica Championship standings after this past weekend’s final round of matches to gain automatic promotion to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership.
They will swap places with whichever current DStv Premiership team finishes 16th – and last – in the log.
Currently that’s a three-race battle which will only be decided around 17:00 next Saturday, 21 May.
The University of Pretoria and Cape Town All Stars, who finished second and third, respectively, in this season’s GladAfrica Championship, will enter a three-team ‘tournament’ with the 15th-placed team in the DStv Premiership to determine who will either retain – or gain – top-flight status.
A record for KwaZulu-Natal?
The Rich Boyz will join fellow KwaZulu-Natal sides Royal AM, AmaZulu, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows in next season’s DStv Premiership.
Surely a record for the province.
