Two patients have been shot dead and a police official seriously injured in the New Somerset Hospital in Cape Town on Saturday evening.

Police say a 40-year-old man allegedly took the firearm of a police official and fired several shots.

Spokesperson, Novela Potelwa, says Sea Point Police had taken a 35-year-old suspect to the hospital for medical attention when the incident occurred.

“Two patients at  a Cape Town hospital were shot dead and a police constable injured after a man inside the hospital grabbed a policeman’s firearm and fired several shots on Saturday evening. Sea Point police had a taken 35-year-old suspect to Somerset Hospital for medical attention when a 40-year-old man inside the hospital took the policeman’s firearm and fired several shots. Sea Point Police later disarmed  and arrested the suspect. The identities of the victims are yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the police constable is fighting for his life in hospital,” says Potelwa.
