Cape Town man Arrested for picking flowers

The South African National Parks (SANParks) has finally nipped an elusive issue in the bud when a flower picker was arrested on Thursday in Cape Town.

RANGERS FINALLY PLUCK THEIR FLOWER THIEF

According to SANParks police, a male suspect was apprehended in the mountains near Jonkersdam, Red Hill.

The local rangers were irritated by what appeared to be a simple trek through the wilderness to pick flowers.

Rangers from the southern section of Table Mountain National Park were responding to a tip about the suspect.

The rangers were grateful for the tip because they had been searching for their long-lost flower picker. More volunteers are needed by SANParks to help eliminate more weeds from society.

ILLEGAL TRADING

According to SANParks, the suspect was discovered harvesting large amounts of King Proteas and Cape Sugarbush. He then started bringing the flowers closer to the roadside for gathering.

“The perpetrator was apprehended and charged with stealing the flowers. SANParks will investigate this matter further in terms of illicit trading and may add additional charges pending the conclusion of the inquiry, according to SANParks spokespeople.

According to the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, an environmental crimes constitute harm that can:

harm our health and the health of our children by causing or contributing to diseases like cancer and asthma
destroy our natural resources, habitats and biodiversity by killing or wiping out wilderness areas and
rare species
compromises our natural heritage, and the ecological integrity of the planet
contribute to general criminal activity, and all its negative social consequences.
