South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said Malamulele officers were patrolling the area on Wednesday night when they spotted flames on the school premises.

After rushing to the scene, it was found that the school had been torched and firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

“The school gates were locked and Police broke the padlocks to gain access to the premises and found that the staffroom block was blazing with fire where all the stationaries, laptops, printing machines and many other items were kept,” said Seabi.

FOOD PARCELS STOLEN

Further investigation revealed that one of the classrooms where the school kept its feeding scheme food was broken into.

Police found that food parcels were missing while others were scattered across the school grounds.

A hole in the wire fence around the perimeter was discovered. Some of the stolen food parcels were found next to the hole.

“A manhunt has since been launched for the unknown suspects and the total value of the damaged property is currently unknown at this stage,” said the police spokesperson.
