Naked decomposed body found in the bank of Umhlangane River in Avoca

According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram the unidentified body was discovered on Saturday afternoon.

“The naked decomposing body of an unidentified person was discovered embedded in the bank of the Umhlangane River in Avoca – KZN.

“Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the area at 13:49 after a scrap collector approached a passerby and informed him of the discovery.”

Balram said on arrival, the scrap collector led RUSA Members more than 500 meters through dense vegetation until they reached the location of the body.

THE NAKED DECOMPOSED BODY WAS FOUND IN A PRONE POSITION

The body was in a prone position and partially exposed along the river bank.

The sex or race of the deceased could not be confirmed due to the extent of the decomposition.

Balram said the SAPS Search & Rescue Unit were called out to recover the body.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, a young mother was executed in front of her children.

Balram said the mother was shot and killed execution-style in front of her two children and other family members during a robbery on Wednesday evening.

YOUNG MOTHER WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD IN FRONT OF TWO CHILDREN

The robbery took place at their home in Ntombe opposite Trenance Park in Verulam.

Balram said they received a call for assistance from a neighbour at 19:44 after one of the children sought refuge at their house.

“Reaction Officers and RUSA paramedics were immediately dispatched and, on arrival, located young KZN mother’s lifeless body in her living room. She sustained a gunshot wound to the back of her head and her left leg.”

He said, according to her family, two armed suspects stormed into the house and demanded that they lay on the ground.

TWO ARMED SUSPECTS STORMED INTO THE HOUSE

They were asked to hand over their cellphones.

“One of the suspects was heard questioning the young mother as to why she turned and looked at him before he shot her twice. The robbers then fled with seven cellphones,” Balram said.
