PDP’s Commitment to Appeal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its unwavering determination to appeal the outcome of the Ebonyi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which affirmed the victory of Governor Francis Nwifuru.

The PDP is resolute in its mission to reclaim what it believes to be its mandate.

Tribunal Verdict

The Tribunal, which convened in Abuja, upheld the election of Governor Nwifuru and dismissed the petitions filed by both the PDP and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

These petitions challenged Governor Nwifuru’s victory in the March 18 governorship polls in Ebonyi State.

Basis of PDP’s Challenge

The PDP, along with its governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, contested that Governor Nwifuru, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was not eligible to contest as an APC candidate because he was still a member of the PDP at the time of the election.

This assertion was met with a counterargument from the APC, asserting that Nwifuru had resigned from the PDP while serving as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and subsequently joined the APC before the primary election.

Tribunal’s Decision

The Tribunal, chaired by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, concluded that there was insufficient evidence presented by the petitioners to substantiate claims of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election.

Furthermore, the petitioners failed to prove that Governor Nwifuru did not secure the majority of lawful votes in the election.

PDP’s Pledge to Supporters

In response to the tribunal’s judgment, the PDP has reassured its members and supporters of its commitment to appealing the decision.

The party has also called upon its supporters in Ebonyi State to maintain calm and uphold peace as it pursues further legal actions aimed at reclaiming what it believes to be its rightful mandate.

A Legal Battle Ahead

The PDP’s decision to appeal the tribunal’s ruling signals its readiness to engage in a legal battle to challenge the election outcome in Ebonyi State.

The party remains steadfast in its resolve to explore all legal avenues to seek redress and potentially reverse the tribunal’s decision.
