In a recent development, a 50-year-old man is now facing serious charges related to the possession of documents or records that are believed to be of use to terrorists, along with possession of articles intended for terrorism.
These charges stem from the aftermath of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) data breach that occurred last week.
The incident saw a leak of personal information pertaining to all currently serving members of the PSNI.
The man in question is scheduled to make an appearance at the Coleraine Magistrates Court on the upcoming Monday, August 21.
The PSNI has stated that the case will follow the standard procedure, ensuring that all charges are thoroughly reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The specific allegations against the man are directly linked to the data breach that exposed sensitive personal data.
The breach led to the online publication of personal information belonging to PSNI members.
The official statement from the authorities affirms, “A 50-year-old man has been charged with Possessing documents or records likely to be useful to terrorists and Possession of articles for use in terrorism.”
This announcement comes as part of the ongoing investigation into criminal activity tied to the freedom of information data breach that took place the previous week.
