The natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have made an appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting that one of them be included in his ministerial appointments.

Alternatively, they have begged for at least one FCT native to be appointed as the head of a board of a Federal Government agency.
This appeal was made during a press briefing held to promote the culture of the indigenous people of the FCT.
The Context of Tinubu’s Ministerial Nominations
President Tinubu recently forwarded the names of 28 ministerial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for screening.
The screening process has already begun, but there is still the expectation of a second batch of ministerial nominees from the President.

Lamenting Marginalization and Seeking Representation
Amos Danlami, a spokesman for the FCT natives, expressed concern over what he perceives as the marginalization of his people in the nation’s political landscape since the return to democracy in 1999.
He emphasized that the longer the appointment of an indigene is delayed, the more the FCT natives feel left out and deprived of the recognition they deserve as a people and community in the FCT.
Danlami criticized past administrations for intentionally overlooking the FCT indigenes, but he mentioned that they had remained patient and respectful of their elders’ advice to remain calm.
Qualified Indigenes Seeking Opportunities
Danlami asserted that the FCT natives have qualified individuals who can make a significant difference in Nigeria.
He emphasized their unique culture, showing their deep connection with the universe, and their aspiration to bring meaning to life regardless of the circumstances they face.

The appeal is grounded in the belief that providing opportunities for FCT natives to serve will contribute positively to the nation’s progress.
Assurance of Inclusiveness from Tinubu
A former Director of Human Resource Management in the FCT, Lazarus Zaka, urged the FCT youths to remain calm, expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusiveness in the management of public affairs.
Zaka praised Tinubu’s contributions to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria, emphasizing his reputation as a consummate democrat and leader of progressives.
He trusts that Tinubu will not leave the FCT natives behind and believes in the president’s ability to lead the nation to greater heights.
The FCT natives are described as peace-loving, transparent, and accommodating people.
