…By for TDPel Media. The Limpopo Department of Health has expressed satisfaction with the apprehension of a Data Capturer linked to the Bela Bela Clinic for illegally selling antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) to a Nigerian individual.
Breakthrough against Rogue Elements
The arrest occurred on 20 July after police investigation found the employee in possession of boxes of ARVs, which he intended to sell to an undocumented foreign national of Nigerian descent.
The Limpopo Department of Health considers this arrest as a significant breakthrough in combating individuals within the department who contribute to medication shortages, negatively impacting the community.
Suspicions of Illicit Drug Use
The Limpopo Department of Health spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, highlighted the concern that illegal foreign nationals are eligible to receive medication at their facilities, raising suspicions that the seized pills might have been intended for the manufacturing of illegal drug substances, posing a serious challenge to the youth of Bela Bela.
The department remains committed to collaborating with the police to ensure the arrest and prosecution of any individuals involved in such theft.
Repatriation Fund for Deceased Medical Student
In a separate tragic incident, a South African medical student, Snegugu Thobeka Myeni, passed away unexpectedly while returning home from the Philippines, just weeks before her scheduled graduation as a medical doctor.
The bereaved family, hailing from KwaZulu-Natal, sought assistance through social media to raise funds for repatriating her body.
The plea did not go unanswered, as the Kwazulu-Natal Provincial Government stepped in, providing support and assistance to ensure the repatriation of the medical student’s remains.
