Mbah took to Twitter to announce the acquisition of new vehicles for the Distress Rapid Squad (DRS), a replacement for the defunct Police Urban Patrol.
The move was intended as a proactive measure to enhance security in the state.
Governor Defends Decision Amidst Criticism
Sharing photos of the new cars, Governor Mbah highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of lives and properties in Enugu State.

However, his choice of Hyundai vehicles over the locally manufactured Innoson vehicles triggered a wave of criticism online.
Many Nigerians expressed disappointment that the governor did not support a Nigerian brand.
Backlash from Online Users
Numerous social media users voiced their discontent with Governor Mbah’s decision.
Some accused him of prioritizing foreign brands over supporting local industries.
They pointed out the durability and suitability of Innoson vehicles for Nigerian roads and the availability of spare parts in Nnewi, close to Enugu State.

Others questioned how Nigeria’s economy could grow if its own products were not embraced, while foreign economies benefited.
Reactions Highlighting Missed Opportunity
Critics highlighted the missed opportunity to support the local economy and promote Nigerian-made products.
They questioned why the governor chose a South Korean brand when Innoson vehicles were available and could have been purchased locally.
Some expressed frustration that Nigerian leaders often failed to prioritize domestic products, thereby hindering the growth of the country’s economy.
Mixed Responses and Comparisons
Amidst the criticism, some Twitter users acknowledged the positive aspect of the governor’s initiative but emphasized the missed opportunity to promote Nigerian-made vehicles.

Others noted that the governor’s move seemed inspired by similar initiatives in Lagos.
However, the overall sentiment expressed disappointment and frustration over the decision to opt for foreign cars instead of supporting local manufacturers.
