One dead after Operation Dudula and Chicken Farm residents clash

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that one person was declared dead at the scene at the Chicken Farm informal settlement in Kliptown.

It is alleged that Operation Dudula along with residents of Pimville marched to Chicken Farm at approximately 16:30 on Monday – the Pimville residents were reportedly complaining about cable theft by Chicken Farm residents, according to TimesLive and News24.

“… There was an altercation where shots were fired. A man and woman were shot and injured. The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

“The woman is at Kliptown police station opening a criminal case. It is not yet clear from which group the injured belong,” said SAPS spokesperson Brenda Muridili to News24.

Muridili said the injured woman was shot in the leg, to TimesLive.

Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini claims the deceased is a member of his group. He tweeted “…[one] of our guys died on the spot…” at 22:38 on Monday.
