Little-known Frenchman to beat Benni McCarthy to SuperSport United job?

Since Tembo’s firing a host of coaches have been linked to the vacant managerial position, including Gavin Hunt, Gordon Igesund, Cavin Johnson and former AmaZulu boss Benni McCarthy.

However, according to a Soccer Laduma source, Folz, who currently is in charge of Botswana top-flight club Township Rollers, has had his hat thrown into the ring after his name was forwarded to Matsatsantsa.

Folz, 49, has worked in Africa having previously been at Ghana’s Ashanti Gold FC and prior to that at French side Chamois Niort, Bechem United in Ghana and Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC.

SuperSport United will next play Kaizer Chiefs

He joined Rollers in December 2021 and has had tremendous success in a short period of time with the side currently in second place in the Botswana Premier League log after 25 matches, four points adrift of league leaders Gaborone United.

“Romain Folz is a French coach who has done well in his career despite him still being still young,” said the source.

“He holds a UEFA Pro license and has been to some of the top teams in Africa, including Pyramids FC in the Premier League of Egypt where he was an assistant coach, as well as in the senior national team of Uganda.

“The coach has been offered to SuperSport United as he is very keen on a move to the South African top division.”.

SuperSport United are currently eighth in the DStv Premiership standings with 31 points after 24 matches.

They will next be in action against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 16 April at 19:30.
