Suspect arrested at shopping center with AK47, Algoa Park

It is alleged that at approximately 15:45 today SAPS Algoa Park received information of suspicious persons roaming around a shopping centre and parking area in Algoa Park.

SAPS Algoa Park sector manager and crime prevention unit responded.

As the alleged suspects noticed the police officers they dropped a bag and started to move away from the area on foot. An officer searched the bag and found an AK 47 with ammunition.

With the assistance from the crime prevention members they arrested one suspect (37) on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate court during the week.
