Sundowns coaching trio able to do better than Pitso

Mosimane is generally regarded as the most successful manager in South African football history, winning five league titles with Mamelodi Sundowns, while also clinching two Telkom Knockout cups, one CAF Champions League and a Super Cup trophy.

Since then he’s gone on to enjoy great success at Egypt powerhouse Al Ahly, winning a host of trophies and recently leading the team to another bronze medal at the Fifa Club World Cup.

However, Sundowns’ success hasn’t deteriorated since Mosimane left, with the club on course for yet another DStv Premiership title, while they’re currently proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the CAF Champions League playoffs, and could also clinch the Nedbank Cup.

According to former star Koketso Mmotong, he believes the extra manpower of Rhulani Mokwena, Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Komphela is proving to be a great success for good reason.

“First of all, I don’t think it’s about them but about Sundowns,” Mmotong tells KickOff.

“If Sundowns do well obviously the coaches will be recognised. Yes, Sundowns should be winning the Champion League, but not because of the coaches, but because of the quality players, they have.

“The current coaches can easily win the Champions League if they do things the way Pitso did it before, it’s easy for Sundowns.

“They are three and Pitso led the team as one man, so I think they are on the same level. They are even doing better than Pitso because there are three of them.

“I think they are underrated because they are doing well in the DStv Premiership and the Champions League, so they deserve the respect.”
