Robbers left ‘hostage scene’ at KZN store undetected – SAPS

The armed guys who held up a store in Durban escaped undetected, according to SAPS and private security reports. Following rumors of an alleged hostage scenario, the Boxer Cash & Carry store has been making headlines.

Brigadier Jay Naicker, a police spokesperson, spoke to the media about the robbers. The employees and guards, according to Naicker, were mistaken. The SAPS had access to the Boxer store’s CCTV footage, according to Naicker.

“We’ve had a chance to actually view the video footage in the store itself. We think the staff were mistaken, in fact, even the security guards were mistaken. They thought the robbers were still in the shop because the three staff members were being held inside.”

The robbers weren’t in the store for too long – Naicker

The SAPS suspects the robbers left shortly after they arrived, based on information gathered from the CCTV footage, according to Naicker. This was most likely due to the fact that none of the employees had access to funds.

He went on to say that the robbers may have fled after realizing what had happened, leaving the staff members to believe they were still there.

“That’s what we were told when we surrounded the building, assuming the criminals were still inside,” Naicker added.

The special task force and response team members swept the whole store, according to Naicker. They were able to ascertain that no one was inside the Boxer supermarket.

According to IOL, he stated that the suspects did not spend much time in the supermarket.

“I believe they fled quickly after realizing the information they had was inaccurate and none of the workers had access to the cash,” Naicker added.

According to Naicker, the robbers’ method of operation suggested that this was not their first time committing such a crime. He’s hoping that the criminals leave DNA or fingerprints behind.

SAPS task force called to hostage situation at KZN store – three freed

On Monday, April 4th, SAPS broke into a KwaZulu-Natal store where employees were being held hostage. After police entered the Boxer Cash & Carry store in Sundumbili, three employees were released.

Four individuals were inside the supermarket, the three hostages told the South African Police Services (SAPS). The criminals confronted the management, personnel, and security of the Boxer Cash and Carry business, according to IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick.
