Yellow alert level 4 weather warning issued for parts of Mzansi

Residents are expected to see persistent rain on Monday, 4 April. SAWS estimated that nearly 50mm of rain could make its way to some areas. It explained that 10mm and 20mm of rain fell in some areas on Sunday, 3 April.

SAWS has warned that the high levels of rainfall could lead to localised flooding for informal and formal settlements, susceptible roads, bridges and low-lying areas. Drivers are urged to be cautious on the roads.

Emergency services are on high alert

IOL reports that Tshwane emergency services personnel said they were on high alert for heavy rains. They are also monitoring areas for flooding and have encouraged motorists to be vigilant on the roads.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said they want communities to be safe. He recommended that citizens do not cross various areas that are susceptible to flooding, especially around the Centurion area.

“That is where, with the last rain, we experienced several fatalities. We would like to mitigate that situation by ensuring that residents know what to do at the right time.”

He explained that there had not yet been any major issues on the road. Adding that there had not been any significant accident with any injuries – just ‘light crashes’.

Gauteng weather: Whole province ‘on alert’ for DISRUPTIVE rainfall

The province of Gauteng has been slapped with a blanket Level 2 weather warning on Sunday, with disruptive rainfall set to persist long into the evening of Monday 4 April.

For the next 24 hours or so, heavy downpours and the potential impact of flooding have put Gauteng on high alert. The SA Weather Service has cautioned locals about the rainfall, warning drivers to adjust to the difficult conditions.

With no exceptions, all regions of Gauteng will experience a deluge of the wet stuff before the end of Monday. One local weather service is also warning of ‘increased travel times’, due to an uptick in traffic issues. ]
