CCTV footage from inside the store shows two men dressed in SAPS uniform, requesting entry to the kiosk behind the counter. Reluctantly, the shopkeeper allows the cops to come and take a look.

The enforcement officials then make their way through a hatch, exiting the front of the store. However, it soon becomes apparent that this is no law-keeping assignment. The alleged SAPS representatives can be seen rifling through the man’s belongings, after they discover wads of cash kept in a basket.

The two-minute video doesn’t conclusively show the money being stolen, but one officer takes a great deal of interest in the cash pile. Meanwhile, the other cop is busy keeping the Somali national at bay. The clip, which has been viewed thousands of times since it was uploaded on Sunday, can also be seen here…

SAPS to probe Somali shopkeeper claims

Yusuf Abramjee, the man who uploaded the video to his social media accounts, is an anti-crime activist. He has since had it confirmed that SAPS will investigate the matter, and they have vowed to take action against any member who willingly stole such large amounts of cash from a civilian.

“A Somali shopkeeper in the Durban area claim these cops stole R37 000 cash from his store. The SA Police Service says a full investigation into this incident is underway and action will be taken.”
