The province’s 13th elective conference – and its first since 2015 – kicked off at the Witbank Dam, Emalahleni on Friday and kept going until the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ndlovu was the preferred candidate of the branches in the province while Lucky Ndinisa was nominated by the party members on the floor.

ANC National spokesperson Pule Mabe said voting continued until as late as 4:00 on Saturday before the results were announced.

Ndlovu, who is a former acting chairperson of the party Mpumalanga, received 440 out of 718 votes. Ndinisa – a former provincial secretary – received 278 votes.

The newly elected chairperson is said to be a staunch supporter of ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa and the result in Mpumalanga could help the president retain his position at the national elective conference, which is expected to take place in December.

The ANC in Mpumalanga continues to announce its new executive leadership.
