Communications Minister Ntshaveni withdraws SABC’s performance reports under her signature

Khumbudzo Ntshaveni, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, has chosen to revoke all quarterly performance reports provided by the SABC under her signature.

The Minister says in a letter to the public broadcaster that she has written to Parliament to retract reports from the 2020 fiscal year because they are based on erroneous information.

The move comes after the SABC said on Friday that it was losing revenue due to digital migration. The Minister says it contradicts information presented in the SABC quarterly performance and Turn Around Plan Implementation reports.

Ntshaveni says she will notify the Auditor-General of South Africa of her withdrawal of support as well as the Minister of Finance of her intention to withhold the release of the next tranches of financial assistance for the public broadcaster’s Turnaround Strategy.

SABC reported a profit for April 2021

In April 2021, the SABC reported a profit of R43 million for the month.

The public broadcaster said its advertising revenue for the month of April was R15.5 million above budget, while sponsorship revenue was R25.9 million above budget.

The public broadcaster’s management said this was the first time that the SABC has performed this way in five years.
