Parliament applauds the court’s ruling on ATM’s bid for a secret ballot.

The Western Cape High Court’s decision to delete the ATM’s urgent application from the court roll has been applauded by Parliament.

The party is pushing for a secret ballot vote on its motion of no confidence in President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, on the other hand, has declined the request.

The court ruled that the ATM had failed to show that the issue was urgent, and it was dismissed. Moloto Mothapo, Parliament’s spokesperson, explains the government’s view on the issue.

“The Speaker argued, and the court agreed, that the ATM’s reason for urgency was its own creation.

The party had been informed of her choice since February 16th and had ample time to consider it from the time it was disclosed. Instead, it chose to request that the Speaker reconsider her own judgment. It addressed the court more than three weeks after the ruling was notified to it, essentially repeating the request it made before.”
