Bafana Bafana star’s situation at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates star Thabang Monare is set to hold crunch talks with management over his future at the Mayfair based outfit.

Monare has been in scintillating form for the Buccaneers this season, so much so that he earned himself a call up to Hugo Broos’ latest Bafana Bafana squad.

The 32-year-old midfielder’s contract is up at the end of the current season and his future at Orlando Pirates is yet to be decided.

Monare joined the Buccaneers back in 2020 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits and has made a total of 48 appearances for the Mayfair side since joining them.

Though his situation is ‘worrying’, Monare’s contract at Orlando Pirates will likely be extended in the coming weeks.

“It’s worrying but the player is not panicking because the club has shown interest to extend his contract,” an insider at Orlando Pirates told KickOff.

“It’s just a matter of him returning back next week so that they open talks and try to finalise a deal very soon.”

Monare not swayed by fan criticism

The Orlando Pirates star recently responded to criticism by fans that felt Mamelodi Sundowns’ Andile Jali should be in the latest Bafana Bafana squad ahead of him.

“My job is on the field. I don’t dwell too much on what is happening in the media or on social media,” the Orlando Pirates star told members of the media last week.

“I feel like people have a right to their opinion, and I also have a right to my opinion but it doesn’t really matter to some other people.

“My job is to represent my country on the field, not on social media. I really don’t look at those things. My focus now is to represent my country well, the best way that I can, and we move forward.”
