An investigation is underway after a late night incident between off-duty police staff and another group of people.
Police were conducting a scene examination after “reports of an incident” on Hereford St on Saturday night at about 3am, Christchurch metro commander Superintendent Lane Todd said in a statement.
Three people involved in the incident were treated for minor injuries, he said.
The incident involved a group of off-duty Police staff and another group of people, he said.
Todd said one person was in custody on charges of theft and intentional damage, but they were not a member of police.
The person will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday.
A police investigation is being conducted by a senior Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) investigator, Todd said, and was in the early stages of enquiry.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority was also notified, he said.
