Free-range dogs in cars – happiness or a hazard?

Fact Checked by TDPel News Desk

Archie, a short-haired border collie, was enjoying the sights and smells of a car ride with his head out the window when things took an unexpected turn.

Archie was propelled out of the car and into the street outside a shop in Christchurch after a sudden stop.

He landed on all four paws, uninjured, and looked perplexed.

Rebekah Narbey, Archie’s owner, said her partner, who was driving at the time, was “mortified” as he tried to pull Archie out of the traffic.

Archie now wears a harness fastened to the car by a belt after the incident last year.

He’s also more hesitant to push his head out the window, according to Narbey.

Ronnie, a five-year-old border terrier from Christchurch, is another dog who enjoys moving about.
