Thembinkosi Lorch could miss Orlando Pirates’ Soweto Derby match against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The game begins at 15:30 p.m. at Orlando Stadium.

Lorch suffered a hamstring injury, according to Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids, ahead of Wednesday’s match against Cape Town City.

Despite producing a number of decent goal-scoring opportunities, the Buccaneers were held to a 0-0 draw by City.

Now, the Pirates attacking department looked thin with Lorch out injured in addition to the likes of Gabadinho Mhango (lack of game time) and Vincent Pule (not fully recovered).

ORLANDO PIRATES CONFIRM LORCH’S HAMSTRING INJURY

“Quite disappointing is the injury of Lorch,” Davids told SuperSport.

“A hamstring. So, he’ll do the scan today (Wednesday) and it doesn’t look good for the Derby as well.

“But, you know, we prepare we focus on this game and, that’s our entire focus not who plays, but the best in place.”

WHY LORCH’S INJURY IS A RELIEF FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

According to stats, Lorch enjoys playing against Chiefs in any Soweto Derby matches, and his absence would be a massive blow for Pirates.

Lorch has faced Chiefs 12 times as a Pirates player – and he has, so far, been directly involved in eight goals.

And that’s five goals scored and three assists for Lorch against Chiefs – the most for him against any other PSL team in his career.
