Lagos NURTW executive Kunle Poly sent to Ikoyi prison

Alhaji Azeez Adekunle Lawal, better known as “Kunle Poly,” a Lagos-based official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has been remanded in Ikoyi Prison.

Following the expiration of the initial order for him to be remanded for 30 days at Zone 2 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Onikan-Lagos, over January unrest in Idumota that resulted in the death of some people, a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday February 28 ordered him to be detained at Ikoyi prison for another 30 days.

Kunle Poly, who is accused of planning a murder plot, has pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Linda Balogun ordered that the NURTW executive be remanded for 30 days pending advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution,  following an application by the prosecutor, Mr Morufu Animashaun,  attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti.

Balogun held that there was merit in the application, before adjourning the case until March 28 for mention.
