The chairman of the 6th Governing Council of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Anthony Ikefuna has tasked members of the council to uphold mutual and harmonious relationship and personal sacrifices, to achieve the set goals.
Professor Ikefuna who was speaking at a two-day inaugural meeting of the Council at the University Council Chambers with both the internal and external members of the council in attendance, noted that their roles as council members demand sacrifice and unequalled commitment to duties, unity and maximum cooperation among members of Council”.
The Chairman further reminded the Council Members that the new Governing Council has enormous challenges to surmount, noting that their ability to solve those challenges will be a proof of their expertise and appealed for cooperation.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Greg Nwakoby thanked Governor Willie Obiano for appointing men and women of proven characters and integrities from diverse backgrounds as external members of the University Council.
He informed the Council of the Election of Two New Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Osita Chighanam as DVC Academics and Professor Mathias Ananti as DVC Administration respectively, as well as informed them of the election of six Senate representatives to Council including Professor Kingsley Nwozor, Professor Angela Nwammuo, Professor Chukwueloka, Professor Emeka Obi Anthony, and Dr Anslem Nweke while Professor Chendo and Mrs Eucharia Abafor were elected into Congregation to Council
The Vice-Chancellor also informed the Council that the University presented fourteen programmes including the Nursing Science and Medical Lab Science for NUC accreditation and resource verification in January 2022 and the outcome is being awaited.
In another development, ASUU-Progressives of the university led by Professor Walter Nwafia congratulated the Council members for being part of the 6th Governing Council of the University and assured them of their unalloyed support and cooperation towards moving the University forward.
The high point of the meeting was a financial support of the sum of Ten Million Naira by a Member of the Council Igwe Chris Oranu Chidume of Omor as a developmental support.
