Gauteng accounts for majority of 2 800 new COVID-19 cases: NICD

2 800 additional COVID-19 cases have been detected in South Africa, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3 654 824, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
This implies a rise of 8.4 percent in positive. Gauteng (40 percent) and the Western Cape (25 percent) account for the majority of new cases today (19 percent ).
According to the NICD, there may be a backlog of COVID-19 fatality cases due to the Department of Health’s current audit. A total of 343 COVID-19-related deaths have been reported by the institute, with four of them occurring within the last 24 to 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 98 298 to date. 22 830 172 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
