Thabo Mbeki, the former president of the African National Congress (ANC), described his visit to the Free State as part of a strategic plan to see the ANC “relax.”
Former ANC President Thabo Mbeki has been invited to assist in the project of renewal and unity of the party for the next three days by an Interim Leadership Structure chaired by Mxolisi Dukwana.
This is in advance of the provincial elective conference, which is scheduled for later this year. Since 2012, there have been schisms at the party.
Mbeki last spoke in Bloemfontein in 2007 at an ANC function. However, ANC elites in the Free State are banking on him this time to bring about much-needed change within the party’s institutions.
