Police Discover Bodies of Mother and Daughter at Luxury Airbnb in Brisbane’s Kenmore Hills During Welfare Check

A normally serene street in Brisbane’s leafy west turned into the scene of a heartbreaking tragedy on Monday.

Residents of Kenmore Hills were left stunned after police discovered the bodies of a woman and a young girl at a luxury Airbnb property.

Grim Discovery During Welfare Check

Authorities arrived at the Tinarra Crescent home around 12:45 pm while conducting a routine welfare check.

What they found was devastating: the bodies of a 54-year-old woman from Norman Park and an 8-year-old girl, believed to be mother and daughter, were located outside the property.

Police are currently treating the deaths as a suspected murder-suicide.

Crime Scene and Police Investigation

The gated property was immediately declared a crime scene, prompting a major police investigation.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have stated they are not seeking any additional suspects.

“Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public,” the official statement confirmed.

Detectives and forensic officers continued their work late into the night, collecting evidence and piecing together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Neighbours React to the Shocking News

The quiet suburb, typically home to retirees and long-term residents, was left in shock.

“It’s a very peaceful street, full of people way past their retirement days,” said neighbour Dirk Vandenbroucke.

Locals only realized something was seriously wrong when emergency vehicles arrived on the scene.

The Airbnb Property

The property where the tragedy occurred has been operating as an Airbnb since at least 2023, following its sale the previous year for $2.5 million.

This single-level, three-bedroom home sits on a sprawling 2.5-acre block and is listed online for nearly $1,000 per night with a five-night minimum stay.

The listing highlights its peaceful surroundings, backing onto Mt Coot-tha National Park, and a backyard with an infinity pool overlooking frangipani trees and woodlands.

Guests are even told they might spot kangaroos in the garden during the evening.
