In a rare and heartfelt revelation, Michelle Pfeiffer, the Hollywood icon known for films like What Lies Beneath and Batman Returns, shared that she has become a grandmother.
The 67-year-old actress, who has always kept her personal life private, opened up during a chat on the SmartLess podcast, surprising fans with the joyous news.
Balancing Family and Career
Pfeiffer explained that her expanding family has prompted her to rethink her work commitments.
“I don’t have time nor the desire to dive that deep for long stretches and not be present,” she said.
“I realize I have a finite amount of time left and — I might announce on this show — that I became a grandmother last year. I’ve been very quiet about it and it is — it’s heaven.
It’s ridiculous. If I had known I was going to be a grandmother, I wouldn’t have taken on so much work, but I’ve enjoyed everything and I’m really grateful.”
The actress emphasized how embracing her new role has shifted her perspective on acting projects, making the process less stressful and more rewarding.
“Giving up that angst about the process has freed me up and, in some ways, made me better,” she said.
Family Life and Children
Pfeiffer shares two children with her husband, television producer David E. Kelley, 69.
She adopted daughter Claudia in 1993 and gave birth to son John Henry in 1994.
She has not disclosed which of her children have become parents, keeping the details of her grandchild private.
Hollywood Stardom and Early Career
Rising to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, Pfeiffer became one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars and a defining sex symbol of the era.
She has starred in films such as Scarface, Grease 2, and The Witches of Eastwick, earning acclaim for both her talent and screen presence.
Love and Family Journey
Michelle also reflected on her relationship with Kelley, recalling how they met on a group date that turned into a blind date.
“I was anxious, and the date didn’t go well,” she admitted. Surprisingly, Kelley called two days later, and the couple went on to build a life together.
Their timing coincided with Michelle’s adoption of Claudia, highlighting that life doesn’t always follow the traditional path. “It was perfectly timed,” Pfeiffer said.
“It’s a real testament to the kind of person he is, and to the fact that sometimes the traditional way of doing things isn’t always the best way.”
Stepping Back to Raise a Family
Pfeiffer has previously taken breaks from acting to focus on her children, balancing her career with motherhood.
Kelley’s career has included a string of successful television shows, including Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Boston Legal, and Wonder Woman. Together, they have built a family life while supporting each other’s careers.
A New Chapter Full of Gratitude
Now, as a grandmother, Pfeiffer seems to have found a new source of joy and perspective.
Her candid reflections on family, career, and life’s unexpected turns show a woman embracing both her personal and professional chapters with gratitude and presence.
