UK Defence Secretary John Healey warns Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow cannot achieve victory in Ukraine during Labour Conference in Liverpool

At the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, UK Defence Secretary John Healey delivered a clear and uncompromising message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking to delegates, Healey declared that Moscow cannot achieve victory in Ukraine and must instead pursue a path toward peace.

“Today our message to Moscow is simple: President Putin, you will not win. Agree to peace,” Healey said, emphasizing Britain’s unwavering commitment to Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine’s Safety is Tied to Britain’s Security

Healey highlighted that the security of Ukraine is directly linked to the safety of the United Kingdom. He made it clear that London will continue both military and political support for Kyiv, regardless of how long the war continues. “Britain will not back down from supporting Ukraine — because Ukraine’s security is Britain’s security,” he stressed.

Support from Across the Atlantic

Healey’s comments came shortly after U.S. Vice President JD Vance echoed a similar stance, telling reporters that Russia must “wake up and accept reality.” Vance reaffirmed that Washington remains committed to a peaceful resolution in Ukraine, underscoring the transatlantic alignment on maintaining pressure on Moscow while supporting Kyiv.

Commitment Amid Ongoing Challenges

The Defence Secretary’s message underscored London’s determination to stand by Ukraine, even as the battlefield continues to present difficulties. Healey framed the conflict not just as a regional issue but as one with direct implications for European and British national security, leaving no doubt about the UK’s long-term dedication to Kyiv.
