Lewis Hamilton Shares Emotional Farewell After Losing Beloved Bulldog Roscoe in the United Kingdom

Lewis Hamilton has shared heartbreaking news with fans after saying goodbye to his cherished English Bulldog, Roscoe.

The seven-time Formula One world champion revealed that he made the agonizing decision to have Roscoe put down following a severe illness that left the dog on life support for four days.

Roscoe, the Bulldog with a Global Fanbase

Roscoe wasn’t just any pet—he had become a familiar face on the F1 circuit, routinely accompanying Hamilton to races and capturing the hearts of fans worldwide.

An Instagram account dedicated to the bulldog amassed over 1.4 million followers, showcasing his adventures and quirky personality, including a bio that read: “I’m a vegan bulldog that loves to travel, play ball and get attention from all the girls.”

Fighting Pneumonia, But Losing the Battle

Roscoe’s health took a sharp turn for the worse last week when he was hospitalized with pneumonia.

Hamilton previously shared that the dog’s heart had stopped while sedated, but was restarted—a tense period where fans were asked to keep Roscoe in their thoughts as he battled in a coma.

Hamilton’s Emotional Farewell

On social media, Hamilton shared a deeply moving tribute to his loyal companion.

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe,” he wrote.

He continued: “He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.

I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.

Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”

Hamilton reflected on the universal pain of losing a pet, acknowledging his own first experience with putting a dog to sleep and expressing solidarity with others who have gone through the same heartbreak.

“Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return,” he wrote, confirming Roscoe passed away on Sunday evening, 28th September, in his arms.

Tributes Pour In from the F1 Community

The official Formula 1 account on X (formerly Twitter) joined the outpouring of support for Hamilton and his late companion, calling Roscoe “a true star in his own right.”

“Lewis Hamilton’s beloved Roscoe brought smiles to the paddock and warmed the hearts of fans all over the world.

Our thoughts are with Lewis during this difficult time.

Rest easy Roscoe, from paddock pup to Dogue icon, thank you for the pawprints you left on all of our hearts,” the post read.

Hamilton also shared a brief message on X: “Lost my best friend last night.

Thank you all for the love you’ve shown him over the years. Roscoe forever.”

Roscoe may no longer be racing alongside Hamilton, but his memory and the joy he brought to the paddock and fans everywhere will be cherished.

From his playful antics to his status as a social media star, Roscoe left a lasting mark on the Formula One world and in the hearts of those who followed his journey.
