Monica Kindt Assumes Role as Acting U.S. Trustee Overseeing Indiana and Central and Southern Districts of Illinois After Longtime Predecessor Retires

A major leadership change is taking place within the U.S. Trustee Program. Attorney General Pamela Bondi has appointed Monica Kindt as the Acting U.S. Trustee for Indiana and the Central and Southern Districts of Illinois, collectively known as Region 10.

This new appointment comes as longtime trustee Nancy J. Gargula retires after an impressive 23 years of service.

Honoring a Legacy of Service

Nancy Gargula leaves behind a legacy of dedication and excellence.

For over two decades, she worked tirelessly to strengthen the U.S. Trustee Program (USTP), guiding countless cases and ensuring fairness in the bankruptcy process.

Her retirement marks the end of an era, but her impact will continue to shape the program for years to come.

Kindt’s Journey to the Role

Monica Kindt is no stranger to leadership. She first joined the USTP in 2009 as Assistant U.S. Trustee in charge of the Cincinnati office—a role she will continue to hold while stepping into her new responsibilities in Region 10.

Her career has been marked by consistent growth, balancing multiple leadership roles and nationwide responsibilities.

Experience Beyond the Title

In addition to her Cincinnati post, Kindt has been serving as the USTP’s Acting Associate General Counsel for Consumer Practice since 2022.

She has also worked closely with the Deputy Director for Management as a special assistant and actively contributes to national working groups on critical legal and operational issues.

Her background is rounded out by private practice experience, where she was a partner at a Cincinnati law firm and also served as a chapter 7 panel trustee.

Academic Foundations

Kindt’s academic journey reflects her commitment to law and public service.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College before going on to receive her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.

These foundations have paved the way for her extensive contributions to the legal field.

The Mission of the USTP

The U.S. Trustee Program, which announced this leadership shift, plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the nation’s bankruptcy system.

With 21 regions, 88 field offices across the country, and its Executive Office in Washington, D.C., the USTP works to ensure fairness for debtors, creditors, and the public alike.

Looking Ahead

With Monica Kindt stepping into this new role, the program is set to continue its mission under steady and experienced leadership.

Her blend of legal expertise, management skills, and nationwide perspective positions her well to guide Region 10 into its next chapter.
