As the Stormers prepare to kick off their Vodacom URC season, star winger Seabelo Senatla is brimming with optimism.
With their opener against Leinster set for Friday night in Cape Town, Senatla believes this season could showcase one of the most dynamic Stormers attacks in recent memory.
Stormers Aim for “Explosive” Rugby
When asked to sum up the Stormers’ attacking philosophy in a single word, Senatla didn’t hesitate: “explosive.”
He highlighted the hard work the squad has put in during pre-season, focusing on new attacking patterns and strategies.
“We have some beautiful plans,” Senatla told reporters, emphasizing that the real focus now is on fitness and execution.
Match action has already helped sharpen the team, with Senatla playing for Western Province in the Currie Cup final round against Boland.
He also scored twice in the Stormers’ warm-up match against the Sharks in George, which he said was encouraging.
“The fruits we’re seeing already are really satisfying,” he added, signaling confidence heading into the URC.
Home Advantage in Cape Town
Starting the season with two home fixtures at Cape Town Stadium gives the Stormers a perfect platform to kick things off.
Senatla noted that slow starts have been a problem in the past, but the team is aiming to change that narrative.
Having support from the home crowd, known as The Faithful, is a big boost.
Facing defending champions Leinster first is a chance to make a statement. The Stormers are determined to make every home match count before their European tour begins.
Squad Depth and Missing Key Players
The Stormers will be without several important players in the opening rounds.
Damian Willemse, Sacha Feinberg‑Mngomezulu, and Cobus Reinach are on Springbok duty, while Bok prop Ntuthuko Mchunu remains sidelined with injury.
However, Senatla is optimistic about reinforcements.
Gurshwin Wehr, Dylan Maart, and Caleb Abrahams join the squad on loan from Griquas, adding much-needed depth.
With regular captain Salmaan Moerat still out, a new captain will be named ahead of Friday’s clash.
Looking Ahead
Senatla’s enthusiasm and the squad’s preparations signal an exciting start to the URC season for the Stormers.
Fans will be eager to see if the team can combine fitness, new attacking strategies, and home support to make a real impact this year.
